Storage for recycling boxes and wheelie bins. Made from European Oak, for its strength & outdoor durability, the wood comes from sustained forestry. Robust & well crafted, simple to self-assemble.
Made in a manufacturing plant that uses all its woodwaste to generate power & heat, this makes for a close to carbon-neutral manufacturing process.

Writer’s desk

Free standing desk for a script writer.

Made and designed by Dan Monck, in painted plywood, desktop linoleum, aluminium round tube, and bronze panels.

Still in use (though not the Apple Mac SE/30).

Reading Museum

Mobile education resource trolleys -  classroom materials, research materials, mobile cloakroom trolleys, mini-shop.

Trolleys accompany school groups to particular galleries, ensuring resources are close at hand.

Designed to be robust, durable, & easy to manoeuvre. Produced in aluminium and acrylic.

Family Futures precautionary lampshade

As the centre works with visiting children, a solution was required to make safe a three storey stairwell accessible by the children,
This seven metre tall translucent polycarbonate ‘lampshade’ fills the open centre of the stairwell, without diminishing the natural daylight, sense of space, or feeding fears of danger.

115 luminaires.

Dimmable fluorescent studio / office lighting. Designed & produced by Material for Workplace Co-op 115, the luminaires use suspended glass channels (Reglit), diffused film, lead end caps,  and north-light tubes.

Kelmscott luminaire

Metal halide uplight designed & produced by Material. Designed to illuminate the fine roof interior of the Tudor barn (1570), and the exhibition below, marking the centenary of William Morris’ death.

Bartholomew Road (stairs)

Stairtreads cut from Glulam timber beam sections, & supported on steel stringers. Cast glass channel glazing on steel frames form the atrium enclosure.

Stainless steel and oak bench

Memorial bench in English oak & stainless steel for Charlotte Oakes.
Sat on by office workers, tourists, and Covent Garden Market stallholders, for a sandwich, in St. Paul’s churchyard, Covent Garden.

Designed & made by Duncan Kramer.

UAE exhibition lighting / Abu Dhabi

High level exhibition lighting.

Designed & produced by Material.

Reduces shadows on display graphics cast by viewer, using narrow beam-angle lamps.

L.E.T. luminaire.

Designed and prototyped by Material, for London’s Cross River Partnership (‘Light at the End of the Tunnel’).
A family of ‘tunnel furniture’ for central London’s railway viaducts (lighting, seepage guttering, lit framing for mosaic artworks).

High output LED’s illuminate the Victorian brickwork of the arches, and fluroescent lamps downlight the pedestrian footway. Fitting is designed to deter pigeons from perching or roosting.

ZSL Elephant & Rhino House / Casson Pavilion

New lighting designed & produced for London Zoo’s Casson Pavilion, anticipating a 24 piece exhibition.

Suspended rolled track, echoing the original flow in the architectural drawings, & bespoke luminaires in powder-coated aluminium.

Kilburn Grange Park Gate Ground lights

High output LED fitting, with mass aluminium heat-sinking body, & stainless steel & glass bezel. Produces tight eliptical beam to concentrate light on  letterforms.
